I’ve just returned from shoulder surgery (boring) and while laying around the house sorting through West Coast trip photos I thought, before the main piece, I’d bring together some of the images that were my favourite. If you’re posting on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, use their hashtag #westcoastnz
The West Coast (if you’ve been you’ll be nodding, if you haven’t you’ll be running for your car) totally blew me away with it’s coastal scenery. I think it’s well known for it’s ‘green’ but nobody mentioned sweeping sea views, deep deep gulps of air and a road to drive that quite simply knocked not only my socks off, but the rest of my attire too. Driving naked sure is fun!
So here are some snaps for you to plan your West Coast trip and where to take photos! There are some incredible places to (safely) pull over and just breathe it in. Your camera will love you for it! I drove my Jucy car ‘Eva’ (yes I gave her a name) all over the West Coast and we had so much fun together.
Punakaiki has the ‘Pancake Rocks’. An amazing stack upon stack of rocks heading out into the sea. There are parts of this little walk where the sea comes in and crashes against the rocks near you. BOOM! Just stunning for you to take photos on a clear day. I can imagine on a moody day its great too.
I was excited about Hokitika Beach as I’ve heard it’s rugged and wild like me. Jokes aside. It’s right there in town. Right there. And the sign that everyone photographs is right there too. I went on that beach as soon as I got there, that night for my dinner, for a run in the morning and while I drank my morning coffee. There was something about it….
Lake Matheson is a wealth of green. Green everywhere. And a great walk/ run around it if you should fancy.
Glow worms at work in Denniston Caves. A total must do on your list.
Bruce Bay just an hour out of Haast. I love the name Haast. Particularly when people say ‘Gates of Haast’. I feel like I’m in a Game of Thrones movie. Just me?
So many little things to snap. Here I stopped for a stretch just near Greymouth.
So there you have it. Some stops for you to peruse when planning your trip. Make sure you take the time to head right up to Karamea, it’s so worth it. And if you start talking to your car, let me know on snapchat!
