When I first moved here, a while ago now I’m getting grey and fuzzy, to have had accommodation available that was 1) warm, 2) clean, 3) near town, 4) affordable and 5) warm (did I mention warm) I would have jumped at the chance. Descending on the town with all the other thrill seekers and trying to find somewhere to live was somewhat of a headache. If you’re new to town or planning on landing on these fair shores do I have a solution for you. You can thank me later, I accept cake and beer in equal quantities.
Introducing Shotover Lodge, a purpose built building with light and airy studio apartments. Gorgeously warm, clean, warm (see what I’m doing here) AND near to town has recently been purchased by Queenstown Resort College.
Located out in Arthurs Point, close to bus links, and nearby Hot Pools, bowling alley, walking trails and Arrowtown, you couldn’t pick a better patch. Infact it’s so good what the hell am I doing living where I am? *starts the car*.
Sitting majestically overlooking the mountains, there are 94 studio apartments all with ensuite, a massive (and I mean massive) clean, well equipped kitchen, laundry, wifi. Shall I go on? Ok yes I think I will.
The views out there are to die for, and when I visited, there’s such a good feeling about the place. It’s serene and yet there’s a buzz to keep your occupied. There is a manned reception, so if you lose your soap down the plughole, you can ring for assistance. There’s a bbq area and a huge outdoor fireplace for all those nights you want to belt out a few campfire songs. I can see it now. Glass of white and many nationalities all gathered around enjoying ABBA.
Double/ twin $290 Single $225, power/wifi/heating/all inclusive, it’s a win/win situation. There’s new people to meet, serenity and peace when you want it and many things to occupy you come the Summer months. If you’re one to cook (I make a mean cheese on toast) there’s a massive kitchen with everything you could imagine to rustle up your next Jamie Oliver dish and entertain friends. The common room looks out into the beautiful skies of Queenstown and there’s a new pool table, huge TV and enough sofas to lie in each one and write your next novel. Huge King Size beds with towels and linen supplied.
Queenstown is a mere 7k’s away and the bus stop is right on your doorstep. As is Nugget Point, a beautiful, well equipped gym and spa hotel right across the road. So when you tire of the magnificent walking trails around the area (are you a fool?) you can get a sweat on within a stone’s throw.
The day I went out there to have a wander around the sun was just fading through the trees, people were hanging outside on the picnic tables sipping tea, You could feel Summer approaching and what a better place to spend it cocooned in warmth and sunshine getting to know new people, cozy, warm, and settled.
