Sherwood. Just saying the words evokes feelings of relaxation, calm, delicious home cooked food and great live music.

Not only do they cause fights over their twice cooked potatoes at dinner time they now have a brand spanking new menu for breakfast and for lunch. And yes the twice cooked potatoes are on there too.

I regularly settle in there for coffee as I check my emails but now I have found somewhere I can eat that doesn’t have to be in the town centre. I can work (co-working space ahoy) and know that I’m filling my tum with an array of good healthy food.

Breakfast starts at 7am (until 10.30) and you can choose from the pastry and coffee option to full on scrambled eggs, happy bacon , muesli, baked beans, The People’s Bread. All alongside your favourite cup of the black stuff to start your day. In their words “the best bloody breakfast in town”.

Then with an abundance of fresh products on the lunchtime menu (11am-3pm), I chose BBQ Chicken, Cos Lettuce, Pancetta, Crisp Bread, Yoghurt Dressing and Parmesan. But there’s delights for all taste buds; smaller bar snacks (almonds, olives, sourdough, charcuterie and pickles), salmon, market fish, chicken, pork belly. A warming smoked gnocchi, pastrami and sauerkraut, twice cooked potatoes, seasonal vegetables.

To finish chocolate mousse (toasted marshmallows anyone), brioche, cheese and bread chips and a daily selection of house made cakes and pastries.

Mouth. Watering.

Kane Bambery also joins Sherwood as their new head chef and what an addition!

“Grandma’s cooking changed the way Kane thought about food when he was about five. Cooking became part of him. Coming through a rough patch in his life as a teenager, cooking made sense and provided a purpose when nothing else did. Starting from the bottom, but moving up fast in kitchen ranks, he soon landed as a Sous Chef under Ken O’Connell which gave Kane an insight how to run a kitchen. The two became a very strong team with Kane taking over from Ken as the Executive Chef of iconic New Zealand hotel The Hermitage at Aoraki, Mount Cook with a brigade of 40 chefs.”
