Taco Epic. Taco Medic<\/a> to be right and real and true. When you need a gorgeous little pick-me-up that doesn’t slop down your new white trainers. And we’ve all been there. Sloppy meaty I’m-drunk-and-hungry-and-it’s-4am and I’ve got meat sauce all down my Nike Air Jordans. Taco Medic does not live in that vicinity. Taco Medic lives in Epic land. Let me explain….<\/p>\n

Born in a time when many of us weren’t around, the legend has it (and I’m saying legend, it’s probably true) that Taco Medic was a considered ‘the man’ at making taco’s using only the freshest most quality products in Mexico. After a storm transported him in his little boat to the shores of New Zealand he couldn’t find a taco to scoff for miles and so, set about brining the Taco revolution to us, to you, to us all.<\/p>\n

I mean. Fair enough. They work hard<\/p><\/div>\n

Taco Medic<\/a> has been around a wee while now. The story (this one’s real) of three men (I want to call them boys because they all look so young and fresh) James, Antonio and Roberto who all had a dream of bringing the tacos they discovered on their trip around Mexico back here to this special place. Starting in a van (which you’ll have seen on Gorge Road and now up near the Gondola in town) the boys brought fresh tacos to the world by day (simple, delicious, healthy lunchtime snack) and by night (I’ve just got out of a club and I’m STARVING). All handmade, all about quality, all about taste.<\/p>\n

It’s hard when you’re a mum, dad, wannabe-healthy eater trying to make choices about what to eat everyday when you live in a town completely packed full of delicious (sometimes calorific) food. Ice creams, burgers, cake (I think I may have mentioned cake a few times) you’d be forgiven that you think you’re on holiday all of the time. And for some you are. But here we have the answer.<\/p>\n

Ahhhh the taco. Seven gorgeous flavours to try, all gluten free, guilt-free, all using the freshest meats and fish and as much organic and locally sourced as they \u2018can get their hands on\u2019. My favourite? A toss up between \u2018The Bushman\u2019, 6 hour slow braised pork belly with a little manuka honey to sweeten things up and \u2018The Fisherman\u2019, spice rubbed fish of the day with pickled onion and a wee bit of kick to get you out of that afternoon slump. The famous last words \u201c1= snack, 2= meal, 3= good on ya mate\u201d were whirring around my head as I\u2019d had two and wanted to go for a third. A friend put her hand on mine and said \u201cwhoa there. Save it for a friday night\u201d.<\/p>\n

Also on the menu Nachos (a firm favourite of mine), tortilla chips and salsa and organic drinks from right here in ol NZ. What\u2019s to argue about? These boys know their tacos. And I get the feeling they\u2019ve eaten a few.<\/p>\n

And now MORE NEWS. They’re in two locations. Stay with me, I know it’s been a long day. One: THE VAN<\/a>. (Yes I’m shouting) currently in a gorgeous wee spot (11 Brecon Street) up by the Gondola Station. Every single one made with love and care in their little van. Sun shade and the view. Oh the view. Hit the trails and then hit the van. Catch my drift?<\/p>\n

And now open in their 2nd location THE TAQUERIA (Taco shop). Searle Lane, known for it\u2019s snazzy shops and Charles Dicken\u2019s feel, was the perfect place after a small but mighty space became available. Down the end where you can dance out of the nightclub into their seating area or receive your feast and go an wander towards the lake front, it\u2019s so perfect I\u2019m wondering why I didn’t think of it myself. Two locations, double the awesome.<\/p>\n

And the boys. Those boys. Working harder than you\u2019d ever know. Another example of how hard people work in this town. \u00a0Think of an idea, work your smart little bottom off, feel the love, customers for miles. BOOM.<\/p>\n

This group of clever individuals also know their staff. They want to be employers of choice, someone that you dream of working for. Clever, sort after, allowed to be an individual in the work place and have a say in where the business goes. Creative, honest, often unique. I love their way thinking as often in small tourist towns, employees come and go and aren’t relished in their own workplaces. This way of thinking cultivates hard working proud people who enjoy their work and want to make business grow.<\/p>\n

I see big things for Taco Medic. I see a bright beautiful spicy future. Where healthy eating is king. Where I eat 3, 4, 5 of these little beauties and still go back for more.<\/p>\n
