I could lie here a while<\/p><\/div>\n

I have no socks on. I know, I know, it’s cold and Spring didn’t get the memo but I have had my socks literally knocked off for breakfast. I was up early on a Wednesday, which is unusual for me as I’m not an early riser, but there was a breakfast to be had and not just any breakfast. Introducing Matakauri Lodge<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I settle quickly into luxury (and fall out of it really fast too) so when I was invited to sample a early morning breakfast at one of the places I’d dreamed of going for a long long time I set my alarm half an hour earlier so I didn’t oversleep, pulled on my largest trousers (to get most effect) and trundled off down the road towards Glenorchy.<\/p>\n

Matakauri Lodge<\/a> is an idyllic hideaway set just off the Glenorchy Road, about 10 minutes drive out of Queenstown CBD. Now, I’m a massive fan of breakfast but I wanted something a bit special on a Wednesday and I wanted to show you what to expect aswell. I’d heard rumours that you could have breakfast at the lodge for a while without staying there (my bank manager would definitely be very mad if I did that) and so when the opportunity came up I was there with bells on.\u00a0 \"matakauri<\/a><\/p>\n

A not-so-typical Wednesday morning we were met by a lovely man from the lodge who ushered us into delicate tones of rustic oranges and reds and asked us the all important question “tea or coffee?”.<\/p>\n

I’ll admit I didn’t know what to expect. Pomp and circumstance? Over the top opulence? What I did get was a gorgeous continental breakfast followed by a lovely hot menu, hushed background music to wake up the sense and a view to absolutely die for.<\/p>\n

The cloud unfortunately made a massive appearance that day and mountains were covered up, but to see Lake Wakatipu from such a different view made my day. After ten\u00a0years in this delightful town I thought I’d seen it from all angles. I had to think again. There’s such a sense of calm here that I could get used to. A completely different way of waking up and getting ready for the day.<\/p>\n

After breakfast Stephen (manager) then took us on a tour of the whole site. Dwellings wrapped up in native bush with just enough privacy to feel as though you were all alone in the forest, but just a stone’s throw away from the main building incase you needed a new toothbrush or butler or someone to make you a proper cup of tea. 12 luxurious guests rooms and suites , 8 on the edges and 4 within the lodge. Spare $16,000 anyone. It’s yours for a steal.<\/p>\n

Gym, Spa and massage rooms with infinity pool. Bikes to hire, deck for lounging or cocktails on the edge of the lake. Anything you could ask for. And absolutely not a hint of snobbery. Not one.<\/p>\n

As a local (I am calling myself that, it’s my blog) I often look for something a little bit different and this is such a treat. You can experience some luxury and then take the drive back to Queenstown and come back down to earth.
