If you delight at being in Queenstown during the Winter but you don’t ski or snowboard it’s often hard to get to grips with what else there is to do.
It’s pretty cold during the months of June- Sept (and can also drift into October) so it’s good to know there’s plenty of other enjoyable ‘sports’ that you can get involved in. Even if they’re of the liquid refreshment variety.
That’s a sport right?
Wine Tours
There’s plenty of wineries (and wine for that matter)to tickle your taste buds if you’ve landed without your snowboard here in Queenstown. The area of Gibbston offers so many options for you whether you’ve got a car or not (hop on and off buses available) and there’s also wine tours where you can try a few out during a morning or afternoon. We’ve also got a heap of craft beer breweries here! Even if you’re not a drinker there’s platters a plenty and some of the finest cuisine this side of the hill.
Biking
Even if it’s -2 up the hill and blowing a snow gale it can still be often pretty calm down in the basin. We do get cold days so wrap up warm but they’re often clear with sunshine just ripe for an electric bike round the 160km’s worth of trails in the area. Check out some of the deals on offer here.and here!
Shopping
We’re not a ginormous city but we do pretty good now for shopping it up a storm AND with the bus service still being free you can get around all the new parts of the town. From Queenstown CBD, to Five Mile, Remarkables Park to Arrowtown we have clothing, food, craft, books, footwear, luxury, vintage and plenty more. Something for everyone and I’m usually everyone. Because I want every ‘thing’.
Eating your way around
There’s now food to satisfy every single taste here. And you could spend all your three days eating and still not have tried out half of them. From Vegan, Malaysian, French, Haute Cuisine, Indian, Slow takeaway, Cheeses, doughnuts and icecream. And everything in between I promise you Queenstown will knock your socks off (and you need your socks on, it’s cold y’all)
Arts and music
If music and the arts are your thing we have all bases covered from beautiful bookstores, vinyl browsing, stand up comedy to all your hip hop desires sorted. Two libraries, museums, art galleries and historical spots.
Spas
There’s plenty of them and a few new ones popping up that I’m about to try out for you (I know I know you’re welcome) but I love to sit and soak for the afternoon (as I don’t have a bath dammit). And stare at the view. Thats pretty ace too. So some of my faves are here!
So there you go! Plenty of stuff to get your teeth into when you don’t like the powdery stuff or the last time you came here you ruined yourself up the mountain! Chillax baby! There’s plenty to do!
I love this place. That’s it! All lovely images supplied by Unsplash.
