Cycling Higher in Queenstown

A bike shop can be many things; a scary little place full of lycra, tyres, chains and old men talking about stuff you wouldn’t want to understand OR a haven of clothing, art, beautiful bikes, coffee and knowledge. Cycle Higher is the latter and oh what a delight. Its all about cycling hire – get it? 😉

Right in the centre of Queenstown where cycling trails are rife, Cycle Higher is a combination of beautiful bikes to hire, gallery space (featuring some of the best local and international artists) and a shop full of beautiful apparel for you to not only look the bees knees (where did that saying come from?) but you can also sound like you know what you’re talking about when you drag all your friends in to wander the space and try on clothing.

Not too much of a lover of lycra but want to see some of the Wakatipu basin? Hiring a bike is one of the easiest and loveliest ways to see it. Easy peddling along the Frankton Track and out along some of the beautiful Arrowtown trails allow you to a) nosey into some of the gorgeous houses out there and 2) it’s (mostly) flattish so you don’t have to be Natasha Hansen to do it. (Olympic NZ Female Cyclist).

Cycle Higher is the brainchild of Paul and his absolute love of all things on two wheels. His love for cycling spread into wanting you to get outside and experience that feeling of wind in your hair and quads a pumping and so the shop was born. Travel the length and breadth of this fair town on nothing but man/woman power and a handy map in your back pocket. #putthefunbetweenyourlegs

You have questions, I know, always questions so here’s some of the answers.

Bike Hire
Heading to town or live here and want to rent some two wheels to get you around? There’s a plethora (a love that word) of bikes from city goers to electric and full downhill graze-your-knees types. Got a wee nipper who you want to take along for the ride? They hire buggies too to fit right on the back of your steed.

Gallery Space
A great aspect of this space is that it doesn’t just rent out bikes there’s also beautiful walls adorned with local and international artists, often for you to purchase. Bring your fresh brew in the morning and check out who’s on the walls this month. Open from 10am.

Apparel
If looking stylish on your steed is your thing there’s also a rail of beautiful apparel available. ‘Search and State’ is currently residing there. Proudly made in New York and settling well in our little town. Make that new years resolution one of replacing those old holey cycling shorts of your dads with some beautifully designed new kit.
And new instore is the gorgeous ‘Out Of The Rat Race’ bibs and jerseys for men and women. Made from recycled plastic and coffee beans you’ll literally be riding faster than anyone out there.

You only get one bum in this lifetime. Make sure it’s comfy.

Community
This side of the shop is where I get even more excited; (apart from all the shiny bikes in store) training sessions for women to learn the tricks and all the fiddly bits about looking after your bike. Book here!
