I first heard about Climate House through a friend of mine who was oooh-ing and ahhh-ing over their lower-than-low power bills last year in Winter. We all know how hard Winter’s can be here with the not-very-warm-houses of Queenstown and Central and so when I was offered the opportunity to stay the night, I put my slippers away and sauntered over.

Climate House NZ houses are “European styling, Passive Haus energy modelling, quality wood triple glazed joinery, natural cladding materials integrated heat recovery ventilation system. All working together to create the ultimate in house performance” (taken from Climatehouse.co.nz).

In other words they are dry, comfortable, warm, seriously easy to operate and smart to boot. They look absolutely beautiful and have heating, ventilation, air conditioning, humidifying, indoor air infiltration and hot water all in one unit instead of individually designed pieces. Warm in Winter (with low bills) and cool and calm in Summer.

Beautifully designed, immaculately executed, I didn’t want to go home after sleeping the sleep that dreams are made of. Soft beds, beautiful white walls and amazing furniture that just fits into the landscape of the architecture.
This house is somewhere you stay and not feel like if you spill something you’ll get told off, but actually feel at home whilst staying away from home at the same time.

Everything has been hand picked to fit into the build. The very talented Jodie Lynes has crafted and picked things that fit with the landscape outside -rugged, comfy and oozing serenity (have you been to Speargrass? You”ll want to set up camp if you haven’t) but also chic, stylish and very down to earth. Can you have all three at once? In this house you can. And it works. It works so so well.

Beautiful touches here and there too. A big bath set under the backdrop of the hills. A little blanket just set on the sofa where you need it. A little oil for your candle madam? They have that too.

I don’t know about you, but if you want me, I’ll be hidden under the sofa writing notes about how to make my power bills even lower this Winter. If I were you, I’d come join me.

Climate House NZ are currently creating beautiful homes out at Jacks Point. Get in touch to discuss here!
