Have you seen the view?!

Hidden away like the garden in ‘The Secret Garden’ is Taste and Savour in Glenda Drive. Glenda Drive you say?!

Down near the end of Glenda Drive amongst the rubble and bubble of workmen and businesses is an absolute haven of trees, birds and delicious coffee and food. Settling back to tuck into my apple and cinnamon crepes, Sally (Owner and all round lovely lady) and I discussed values, ideas and the ultimate question of why?

A pure business woman with a delightful love of food, wine and secret talents (multi-sport, she’s English so of course she’s amazing and she knows good coffee when she smells it) Sally wants to bring the town of Queenstown and the community of Glenda Drive great food, seriously perfect coffee and a secluded spot so tranquil you could be forgiven for settling back and watching the world go on it’s heady march without a thought for anyone. The first question in the morning is “how’s my grinder” which indicates the total love for what she does.

Taste and Savour has the coffee (All Press, trusted, organic), the deli food, sandwiches and cakes (delicious, homemade), a full and varied all day menu (crepes- delicious), the freezer food (a complete dream for me who is a completely rubbish lazy cook.) And it’s homemade, simple and tasty. There’s also a large selection of wine (local and a growing international list.) Did I mention the wine?

Homemade goodies

I’m always looking for a new place to have breakfast, stuff my face full of cake sample new delights, meet new people and this place is perfect. The attention to detail is just what you want in a cafe, the little things are just right- view, fresh and innovative ideas, staff who obviously love what they do and a business owner who is totally on the right track to doing things well. There are lots of other projects on the horizon (we haven’t even started on the upstairs) so keep your peepers peeled.

A resident of this fine land for over 30 years, Sally started in Auckland providing corporate catering before anyone had the idea that this was a clever way to get good food to the business community. You could call it right place, right time. But a chord was struck and the ideas flowed. Espresso coffee when the world of Auckland was still slurping it’s filter coffee, well made delights for breakfast when everyone else was still eating pies and a knowledge that this was what people really wanted. Sally’s long history in the hospitality game is apparent and shines through every last detail.
