Looking for spa treatments is a pain when you’re pregnant. You’re already in pain (thus looking for treatments) , so scouring the net for what you can and can’t have should not have to add to that pain.
I wanted a massage and was searching when ‘ping’ my email went off and I received a message from the gods. The Body Sanctum gods to be exact. So I waddled off to see them right here in Queenstown town centre.
Pregnancy massage and treatments can be either a) absolutely divine giving you a chance to settle, relax and be pampered or 2) a right royal pain as you’re shifting around uncomfortably on your side with no understanding of what you’re experiencing.
Body Sanctum absolutely exceeded expectations. The wonderful Leo was patient and made sure I was comfortable and relaxed every step of the way.
To start; a foot soak and scrub with leg massage. I think I actually fell asleep for a moment as my feet were gently taken care of. I have cramp, sore limbs and an expanding waistline so a foot and leg scrub was heavenly. Before long it was done and onto the main course; massage.
I will be honest here, I had the thought this could either be another twisty turny experience where I don’t know who or what I am anymore or it could work out fine. For one, I hadn’t been on my front for about five months, two; I expected a hole in the bed which is usual for pregnancy massages and three; you are slightly nervous because, you know, you’re growing a human (super woman alert). So anything around that area is slightly nerve wracking. I needn’t have worried.
Under the sheets, like a small assassin, was the wonder cushion. You lay down on your front (like you would a normal massage) and your belly squishes into the cushion, fully supported and totally comfortable. I’ll admit it took me a few deep breaths to say to myself “this is fine” and Leo made sure I knew at any time I could change position and stop, but it was wonderful. To be in that position in the first place I realised how much I’d missed it and also to get a full massage that felt like I was my ‘old self’ was wonderfully freeing.
otally snored may have nodded off and I may have wished it wouldn’t end but alas like all good things (cake, hot chocolate) these things have to finish. Wonderfully relaxed and feeling slightly above normal I hopped off my cloud and into the real world. Well done Body Sanctum.
You can choose from pre/ post natal massage or a mum-to-be indulgence. Something for everyone who needs a little something to help. You’re creating a human, be kind to yourself!
