Afternoon Tea at Grosvenor House London

Afternoon High Tea is on most people’s ‘must do’s in London’ and the one at Grosvenor House Hotel is an absolute Do.Not.Miss.

My absolutely favourite London (and the world) blogger Poppy Loves and I sipped, oohed and ahhhed our way through a course or four while our cameras did all the work. We were settled into their elegant Park Room for the duration and my my my what a room.

We were treated to the ‘Royal Rabbits Tea‘ which is a wonderful partnership between Simon and Schuster UK and the Grosvenor House Hotel based on the fantastical children’s series ‘The Royal Rabbits of London’. Considering we are avid book readers and Poppy is the brilliant brains behind Poppy Loves Book Club (we have a branch here in Queenstown- have you joined us?) we were in excellent company.

Bubbles to start (which is completely standard in my day to day of course) and then onto a haven of food and drink comprising delicate finger sandwiches, open sandwiches, scones (jam/cream or cream/ jam options were of course argued over discussed) six types of jam (we’re english we’re good at jam) five different types of pastries (with wonderful names such as ‘The Queen’. She, sadly, didn’t join us) and the piece de resistance, a gorgeous copy of ‘The Royal Rabbits of London’ which I read on the tube on the way home.

And afternoon tea wouldn’t be afternoon tea without…. tea (funny that). A huge assortment from Newby (it was about three pages long. Heaven).

Grosvenor House Hotel is a wonderful example of a beautiful five star hotel where you can settle in for an afternoon of luxurious quaffing and then meander home to reality (washing up, dishes and House of Cards). You can dream of how ladies and gentlemen years ago hopped on the Bond Street tube and they too delicately sipped tea and scones for an afternoon. I do feel sorry for them though. No Netflix to settle into afterwards with a full tum. Ho hum.

You must also go for a little wander around the room as there’s also a huge table in the middle of the room piled high with more cakes and macarons. I spied a Victoria Sponge (my absolute fave) but could not fit another bite in. Shameful I know. What have I become? But you could give yourself the challenge. And then take lot’s of photographs to prove it. Call it #cakechallenge.
