Catch a Sunrise at Queenscliff

During Autumn there are some of the most amazing sunrises and sunsets here. You’ll be cooking your five minute noodles and glancing at the grey sky and then whammo, an abundance of pink greets you. The sky is on fire and you’re running for your phone like a photo genius.

On my last visit for Relax It’s Done and their beautiful luxury accommodation list here in Queenstown I had the opportunity to stay at Queenscliff and see not only one sunset that made me cry but also a sunrise that had my curtains screaming for me to open them the morning after.

I’ve stayed in accommodation in the clouds at Joela and Ive hidden away at Jewel on Speargrass and Queenscliff was my last foray into photographing the sunrise.

Set right against Queenstown Hill, Queenscliff marvels views to die for, a quick meander into town for dinner and a hot tub the Queen would be proud to sit in. Corgi’s not invited.

Queenscliff has four bedrooms (three and a half bathrooms) and can sleep eight nestled easily in it’s splendour. Absolutely perfect for those cold Winter days post skiing. You can warm up your ski boots (in ski and boot warming area- hello luxury) and be ready for the next days powder without having to worry that your tootsies are going to get cold.

The master bedroom’s view (where I lay my wee head for the night) is one of the best in Queenstown. Right there above the lake, boats zoom, paraglider’s glide and the peninsula beckons you for an evening walk. We stepped into the hot tub, hidden away under the house, and gazed out at the sunset for the evening.

Perfectly quiet and private you can show off your new bikini and know that the whole town isn’t going to be watching. I love this house for that- simple, private, in the thick of it. A difficult balance but Queenscliff have nailed it.

The house also has a wonderful Asian influence. Many aspects and trinkets of the owners travels are lovingly placed throughout the house. You feel like you’ve snuck into someone’s little world of magical finds whilst being completely set up for your own private stay. Stunning glassware alongside local photographers art on the walls. Memories of holidays past and a good solid set up if you need to get some work done or relax.

Other features of this house are internal lift, beautiful spa bath in the main master suite, golf clubs and bikes available to use in the garage, wifi, computer and printer (hello business weekend away) and two separate lounge areas. This was great for us as I wanted to watch movies (did I mention drawers full of DVD’s) and my partner wanted to read (great selection in the downstairs lounge). No fuss, no arguing about who did what.

As we settled into another glorious sunset that evening, glancing through the telescope set up in the lounge area, we breathed in the amazing sky, the views around us and the gentle flicker of the fire. And smiled as we made a bet about the sunrise that would greet us in the morning.

Pink or red sky? You can now see it from the clouds. Everything else you can leave to Relax It’s Done to sort out.

Queenscliff.
