Glamping at Mrs Woolly's Campground

A while ago Mrs Woolly’s General Store opened in Glenorchy; a haven of food, cakes, waffles, clothing, hardware, snacks for tramping. Beautiful gifts, honey, boots, tea, coffee and then some. Alongside the store is the newest addition Mrs Woolly’s Campground. Thirty Two unpowered sites for your tents and now the added bonus of two (with a third being built) beautiful ‘glamping’ tents. I headed down the road to experience their Great Glenorchy ‘Get-away’ day and sleep the night away under the stars.

A whole day allotted to eating, sipping, laughing, heli-rides, a tour of their soon to be finished Camp Glenorchy and later on a beautiful dinner and movie outside with the community. I then had the wonderful opportunity to slip my shoes off and get under a large canvas in one of their tents.

These tents had all the comforts of home and more. Beautiful possum covered hot water bottle, a larger than large beautifully covered bed, breakfast brought to my own porch, hot coffee, pastries, fresh flowers and cookies. I didn’t want to leave said tent. Ever. In fact if they look in tent two, I’m hidden under the mattress.

I like to get outside every once in a while and get amongst it but the older I get the more I like a lovely bed to lie in and nice sheets to boot. I also like my coffee hot, my cakes cloud like and a nice warm hot water bottle at the end of a long day. I am not getting old I’m just getting to know what I like.

The team at Mrs Woolly’s Camp Ground and General Store are working tirelessly to bring new and exciting projects to the community of Glenorchy. Sustainability being at the top of their list. They want this world to be here in a million years not the next few hundred. They also have other projects nearing completion. Camp Glenorchy will be New Zealand first net zero energy campground with tents, caravan spots and cabins.

Mrs Woolly’s General Store

The store has everything you could need the worlds best hammer anyone? Beautiful things to buy and take home to your loved ones, as many locally (and NZ) made products as they can possibly buy from the best food/ product makers in the country. Chocolate, honey, teas, clothes for when you forget your sunday best, waffles, coffee and tea and gifts.

Thirty two unpowered sites with the addition of glamping tents, playground, kitchen, bbq facilities, laundry, showers and view. (The view in Glenorchy is free disclaimer: you won’t want to leave either). A beautiful campground to spend your days relaxing, reading books and getting cozy in your tent.

Great Glenorchy Get Away Days

To top the list of everything to do (yes there’s more) are their Get Away Days. An opportunity to get together as a huge community, eat gorgeous food, get more info about all their projects (Camp Glenorchy, Campground, Store) watch movies (Hunt For the Wilderpeople!) workshops, stalls and music! This was the fourth and I was blown away by the community turnout. I ate my body weight in a beautiful spread put on by the team and Wild Earth. The look on everyone’s face whilst watching the movie, all together, was a sight to behold. The team there are amazing, just wonderful. And their sense of community is unquestionable.

I was blown away by what these people are doing out in beautiful Glenorchy. So much enthusiasm, community love and beautiful products. As they say “I glamped, I tented, I conquered” and you will too. Get in your car, on your bike or on your scooter and get down the road to Glenorchy.
