My house is a pretty special place. I live out in the middle of nowhere and there’s a menagerie of animals and wildlife dotted around the area. Dogs, chickens, horses, goats, sheep and of course me.
I love coming home after a long day in the saddle or at the computer and walking through the door to my little paradise. I also love entertaining and bringing people to this special place. So when I noticed dontbeadoormat on Instagram and their fabulous mats I literally ran out of the door into the paddock and shouted at the horse (Misty) “get me one of those”.
A wonderful small but mighty business right here in New Zealand, Dan and Tess started making their incredible dontbeadoormat when they couldn’t find mats that ‘spoke’ to them as they crossed a threshold. Welcome doesn’t really say much but ‘Got wine?’ or ‘Welcome Homie’ really does.
Made from 100% renewable coconut fibre with no nasty plastics AND they donate $1 to Kidscan NZ for every doormat sold. Total. Flippin. Legends.
I picked ‘Haere Mai‘ as Te Reo is part of this land and the animals are from here. I now know they’re fluent in Maori as all of them came into the house after reading it. I might have to change it later to read “everyone but the animals”. Horses in the house might be a step too far.
Humans yes, goats and sheep not so much.
dontbeadoormat also ship to anywhere in New Zealand and Australia ( you can enquire about worldwide and they will be happy to research). All of their beautiful designs can be found here and if you’re favourite friend, grandma or lucky neighbour is having a birthday why not get them a voucher! Imagine getting a voucher for a dontbeadoormat instead of some crusty old chocolates! Happy Days.
I’m so proud to be able to welcome dontbeadoormat to our little family. I love what they’re doing and their whole story. Making a business out of something so lovely and a great NZ success right there. I am flippin in love with them. And you will be too. Start the mat revolution!

I received a dontbeadoormat as a gift but as always my views are my own.
