eating my way around Melbourne

Leaving is so hard to do!

Eating out in Melbourne is next level. There’s three stages; amazing, bloody amazing and blow your mind, lick your fingers amazing. Everywhere you go the food and coffee is so good that the next cafe along (usually literally next door) is always about being better (because I guess they have to) so you can’t go wrong. I spent my whole time eating my way around Melbourne so you can too.

Three and a half short hours from Queenstown and you’re slap bang in the middle of the city with more traffic lights than you can shake a stick at. We only have three sets here so it’s all a bit daunting at first. Give me an hour and I’m a hardened city slicker, budging people out of the way for my mocha-choca-latte.

leafy-ness

We were staying in Richmond (which is about ten minutes out of the city- great on the trams) and there is a whole lotta lovin’ for cafes there. We wandered the leafy lanes marvelling at some of the houses (there’s so many quirky ones) and finally had to sit down and take a moment.

The beautiful A Thousand Blessings Cafe in Richmond (390 Bridge Road, Richmond) is a photographers dream. So many things to snap and so many things to eat. We chose the salad bowl (as we needed to feel better about ourselves after the evenings whisky consumption) juices and of course, coffee. The resident street cat came and gave us a smile too.

Amazing interiors

The opposite end of Richmond we found Reunion and Co Cafe (472 Bridge Road, Richmond) where we scoffed a delicious plate of green (pea fritter and poached eggs) and I couldn’t go past smashed avocado and feta with bacon. I have absolutely no idea where those pigs live but I want to live there. Possibly the best bacon this side of the equator.

Chocolate Buddha

We wandered into the city to see the latest Scorsese Exhibition at ACMI #scorseseACMI (which is wonderful, violent, beautiful and a must see) and after all those bloodthirsty images we were hungry! What what!

Around the corner we found Chocolate Buddha (Federation Square, Melbourne). Apparently a long time local but it felt as new as new can be. We decided on edamame (standard) and I went for the vegetable curry bowl with brown rice. Alongside was broccoli in satay, miso soup, salad and sushi. Whammo!

Stop drooling!

Oh and doughnuts. Did I mention the doughnuts? You’re very very welcome.

Who’s for cricket?

A complete surprise in coffee-ness was the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground). We had a (rather cold) but trusty tour around the ground and then went into the cafe to warm up. I was gobsmacked at 1) the loveliness of the cafe (all that yellow – so on point) and 2) the flat whites were amazing. A total must do local tip if you need one.

Night wanderings.

If you haven’t taken a shot of the shot tower…you’ve not been to Melbourne.

Melbourne you’re simply stunning and now my trousers hate you because I need to buy new ones. I’m bowled over by the fact that you serve up amazingness everytime. I’m also bowled over by the fact that I said ‘on point’. I really did eat too many doughnuts.

Where’s your favourite places? I’d love to know!

Melbourne, Australia

I wasn’t paid or gifted by any of these lovely cafes and as always all my opinions are my own.
