remarkables market Queenstown

Welcome! Now where are those almond croissants?

I love markets. I love the word market. It summons up images of crafts, fresh bread, cakes (CAKES) and local produce. Families and friends all gathered together on a Saturday, buying and eating and laughing. So when the Remarkables Market was set up five years ago (can you believe it!). I whooped at the thought of all the stuff I could get in my face, my fridge and my pockets.

Queenstown does community like no other I’ve known. It’s transient yes, there are lots and lots and lots of us who don’t have family near us, so our friends become our family, and also there’s many layers to who’s been here for five years and five minutes. Wrap this all up in a tight bright red bow and you have an eclectic mad mix of people who, in the end just want to belong to something special. To have somewhere you can gather and talk and laugh and stuff stuff stuff your face full of the most delicious food and drink. So every Summer it’s amazing that you can stick on your jandals and get it all in one place.

Sneaking a look the week before.

Stall holders are there every Saturday from October through to March 9am-2pm (extended hours people), there is live music, areas for the kids to play, new and improved car parking and so so much to look at, eat, drink, buy, stare at and return for next Saturday with all your mates in tow.

The market is set amongst the gorgeous red barn, a huge tin structure which evokes feelings of Southern America where the hot Summer days stretch on forever, music ringing in your ears and the sound of laughter long into the afternoon.

There’s so much variety as one of the amazing things about Queenstown is the veritable feast of nationalities that reside here. All thrown together in a delicious melting pot of food, music, art and culture and this is exactly what markets are about. Rows and rows of beautiful things to show off the fact that this town is so wonderful. And so full of different people from everywhere, all wanting the same thing. To connect, to laugh, to hang out on a Saturday and eat so much lovely food you need to lie down for the whole of Sunday. Am I right? To see people you haven’t seen for ages and then run off because someone is buying the last almond croissant. Did I mention the croissants enough?

The big red barn!

You can ride your bike there along the path, get your mates together and car pool or just thumb a lift as you don’t want to miss it. Every Saturday seeing all the people you’ve been meaning to catch up with for ages, you now have the prefect excuse to get out to Remarkables Market and talk your ears off.

To give you a little taster of what’s on offer there’s fresh salmon, cheeses, homewares and pots, fresh flowers, jewellery, smoothies and salads, hot bacon butties, children’s and adults clothes, fresh almond croissants (which disappear FAST), artwork and photography, live music, bouncy castle (try and stop me), bread and sweet treats.
It’s also the perfect place to eat brunch and lunch there , I want to grab all my friends and run like the wind to get amongst it quick, as I now know from experience those almond croissants do not hang around.

It’s on every Saturday from 9am-2pm from October right through until March. Put it in your diary every. damn. week. Bring your mother-in-law (she’ll love you for it), your new date (because everyone finds love over the radishes), your best friend (and buy her/him a coffee), your dog, your child. But don’t sell them for that last croissant.

If you’re also wondering how you become a stall holder there’s the availability to do that too, just get in touch here.

The Market is also on trip advisor, so when you’ve finished stuffing your bags and face full of gorgeous things, you can head over there and say how amazing they are! Just like that.
