I am involved in (many things I know) TEDxQueenstown this year. I’m so excited to be working with a group of individuals who want to bring exciting talks to the town and get you in on it. I’ve mentioned the word exciting and excited twice so it must be true.
Your next question is “what is TEDx?”
“TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.” (information from www.TEDxQueenstown.com)
It’s a huge thing to have here. I mean they have them all over the world and our little town is in it’s third year. This event has been put on by a group of volunteers who have given over 4000 hours to this project. There will be laughter, music, sweet food, mind-blowing talks and cake. (See why I’m involved) but seriously there is nothing better than connecting with a room full of sometimes new people discussing the world and what’s going on in it. And in your home town too. You can buy tickets here but don’t delay they will SELL OUT. Don’t be one of those people who next month at your game of croquet said “ooh I wish I had got tickets to that”. Go and hang out and experience something other than chucking yourself off a mountain. It WILL expand your mind. It WILL get you talking. It WILL be amazing. And I’m so proud to be a part of that experience.
